Mitali Perkins is visiting AES this Thursday and Friday, but what does this mean for the middle school students?
Teachers say this is a learning experience, and an opportunity for students to learn from real and successful authors. “I think this is a fantastic chance! It gives middle schoolers a chance to pick up techniques that will help them not only in school but in the real world too,” said Ms. Rydberg. Mr. Bisht added, “We’re gonna be splitting up into grades and individually talking and learning from Mitali Perkins, she’s a great fit for AES because she has a great perspective of an Indian-born American who often writes about this region we’re living in.”
Teachers aren’t the only ones full of anticipation, “Her books let me see an interesting perspective of race and class. It taught me to a lot about other people who vary from me, and in a clear and easy-to-understand way,” one 8th-grade student explained. “I learned a lot about Indian culture from Mitali Perkins’ books, and can’t wait to learn more about her and her writing!”
Mitali Perkins can sign your books Thursday and Friday at lunch! You also have to chance to have a pancake breakfast on Saturday at 9:00 am. It’s going to be great!
