Hi! I’m here to introduce the new month! March. March is the month of green (my favourite colour). Like Valentines in February, there is a major event in March too - it involves green and shamrocks.
Saint Patrick’s day (March 17)
Saint Patrick’s day is a day that people celebrate and have public parades, festivals and dress up with green, green, green! People put on anything that is green. They wear green clothes and green accessories because there is a folklore saying that green makes you invisible to leprechauns - they like to pinch anyone they see. Not only that, the Irish say that green is the colour for good luck.
One cool American tradition takes place in Chicago. On Saint Patrick’s day, the officials in the city turn the Chicago river green to honor Saint Patrick. Irish immigrants helped the city to settle.
The shamrock ☘️ is the symbol of the holiday because Saint Patrick used it to teach about the holy Trinity to people. People hold parties with green Irish food and drinks(dyed green) to a part of the tradition.
The next event is one of my favorite events of the year. The earth hour. Earth hour is an event I got to know last year. Earth hour is an event where mostly all people take part in. to participate, you need to know which date the earth hour is. This year,it is on March 27, 8:30 to 9:30. When it turns 8:30 on March 27, we would appreciate it if you turn off the lights until 9:30. This is a good and easy way to save electricity with the whole world. This event was started in Sydney, Australia, 2007. This year would be the 15th year we are doing this. Some buildings turn on a few lights on some windows to spell out letters. Please be sure to participate in this event.
The last special event in March is Holi. Holi is an event from India. Holi is also known as the festival as colours. Holi is celebrated to welcome the arrival of spring. The Holi legend is about a villain called Holika who tried to kill Prahlada. Holika, wearing a cloak to protect her, led Prahlada into a trap. But as Prahala stepped into the trap, the cloak protecting Holika flew off her back and protected Prahala. Because of this legend, Holi is also a festival of good over evil. I think Holi is from the name, Holika.
Now these are the three events! Thank you for reading~
