It is the end of the school year, so we will soon have to say goodbye to a few of our favorite teachers. This year, 13 middle school teachers are leaving or moving out of the middle school. Over the final weeks of school, The Direct Message will post an ‘Exit Interview’ that we conducted with these educators.

What will you remember about this teacher?

"The thing that I will probably remember the most about Mr. Fumi is his compassion and understanding of different people's previous math backgrounds. He always takes extra time for students who need help, whether it's after a long day of school, or if it's taking up one of his breaks, he's almost always available for questions. Mr. Fumi explains everything well for people of varying levels of math knowledge, making sure everyone understands the material before moving on."

What is a funny or memorable story that you have about this teacher? (class, WOW, coaching, after school activities)

"My favorite memory with Mr. Fumi was the first day of WOW this year when we went rock climbing. He participated with us, even rappelling down the huge cliff. I loved how engaged he was with his students, and how he never backs down from a challenge."

What makes this teacher unique?

"The thing that makes Mr. Fumi so unique and different from other teachers is his always positive mood and charming personality. He's always smiling, no matter what, and tries to lighten the mood in a difficult math class. Mr. Fumi is also really encouraging to students and teachers both, and I really admire him for his qualities."
