It is the end of the school year which means that we will soon have to say goodbye to a few of our favorite teachers. This year, 17 middle school teachers are leaving and over the next 18 school days, The Direct Message will post an ‘Exit Interview’ that we conducted with each of these educators.

Mr. Brian Amlani
4 Years at AES: 2013 – 2017
Next Stop: Shanghai – Shanghai American School
Courses Taught: Math 6, 7
What will you miss most about AES?
The students for sure. Love their positive and inquisitive attitudes. I’ll also miss the popcorn!
What is the best part about being a teacher at AES?
Getting to work with so many talented teachers over the years and having them push to strive to get better. I have been very fortunate to work in the math department. Mr. Smith, Mr Babcock, Mr, Fumi, Mrs. Sawkar, Mr. Webster, Ms. Hills, Mr. Hannon, Mr. Hahn, Mrs. Hegrenes, Mrs. Saich & Mrs. Hamilton pushed me to get better!
What are your plans for next year and what are your thoughts about this next step?
I’ll be moving Shanghai and will be reunited with Mrs. Saich at Shanghai American School. I am excited for my next move. I’ll be teaching math in the Middle School and I am excited to explore a different region of Asia.
How do you hope your students and colleagues will remember you?
Good question…..Someone that was passionate about math, loved to have fun and loved coaching basketball. Also as someone that was energetic!
What message would you like to leave for the community at AES?
Keep on learning and never be content with who you are….always look to improve yourself and those around you that you care for around you. Don’t let other people’s thinking get in the way of your own…have your own voice!
What the students had to say.
