Band

Band is a music program with a variety of woodwind instruments. Band instruments are played by blowing air into the instrument. They have a variety of instruments in the brass section, such as the Trumpet, Tuba, French horn, Baritone, and Trombone. Brass section instruments are played by vibrating your lips against a mouthpiece. Woodwinds are played by blowing air through the mouthpiece and vibrating the reed. The reed is a piece of thin wood that vibrates to produce sound. The woodwind section has some of the most iconic band instruments: Saxophones, Flutes, and Clarinets. The Bassoon and Oboe use a double reed, which works differently. Flutes do not use reeds but belong to the woodwind section because they originally consisted of wood.  In addition, percussionists play a variety of instruments, such as the Drum set, Xylophone, Cymbals, and Snare and Bass drums. Band students especially love playing band pieces and have many opportunities to do so.

Band instruments are louder than the strings section; you blow into them, making it easier for beginners to produce loud sounds. In addition, band keys are easier to finger than their string counterparts. In addition, using a bow creates some complications. If you aren’t sure which instrument you want to choose, the variety of instruments in the Band section means there will probably be an instrument that you would like.

Strings

Strings have instruments that belong in the strings family. Those include violin, viola, cello, and double bass. String instruments are known for their rich, flowing, and expressive sound. Strings often play Classical music. String instruments produce sound by vibrating the strings on the instrument by either using a bow or plucking the strings using fingers.

Controlling the volume of string instruments is significantly easier than in a band. Since string instruments don’t rely on breath and air to create sound, they avoid some complications that the band has. String instruments are more versatile since you can bow and pluck them. Also, learning a string instrument makes it easier to learn other instruments like the guitar, bass, or piano.

While both strings and band have their advantages and disadvantages, they are both fantastic options for 6th-grade students and new students who want to learn music. No matter who you join and what instrument you pick, you can achieve great things if you dedicate your time and effort to it. If that sounds like your thing, go ahead and try it!
